Every winning streak must come to an end, Saturday night was the end for legendary mma fighter Fedor Emelianenko's win streak. He was choked out by Fabricio Werdum at 1:09 of the very first round. Up until this point in his career, there were many who considered Emelianenko undefeated because of the odd circumstances of his first loss. After tonight, his professional record stands at 32-2 with 1 no contest. Considered the greatest mma fighter of all time by many, it will be interesting to see how he returns.
The most well-known female mma fighter was also in action Saturday night, Cris Cyborg took on Jan Finney. Cyborg dominated in typical fashion, and showed why she is considered the #2 pound-for-pound female fighter in the world by mmarankings.com. Cyborg dropped Finney on quite a few occasions, punished her with a barrage of punches, and finally got the TKO victory in the second round.
Living legend Frank Shamrock announced his retirement at the event. Shamrock was the first ever UFC Middleweight Champion, he was named "Fighter Of The Decade" for the '90s by the Wrestling Observer, and was named "Fighter Of The Year" by Full Contact Fighter Magazine. He finishes his career with a record of 23 wins, 10 losses, and 2 draws.
The other main card fights saw Cung Le defeating Scott Smith by referee stoppage in the second round, and Josh Thomson submitting Pat Healey in the first round.. Le dropped the veteran Smith with a crushing spinning back kick to the side, and utilized some good ground and pound to earn the victory. Healey somehow survived five submission attempts before finally succumbing to the sixth, a rear-naked choke he looked to initially weather. However Thomson locked in a body triangle, got the leverage he needed on Healy's neck, and forced the submission.v
