Today a 14-year-old student named Todd Brown was shot at school by his 15-year-old classmate. Brown was reportedly shot in the head, and remains in critical condition at Huntsville Hospital.
The incident happened at Discovery Middle School in the small town of Madison, Alabama, and the two students are in 9th grade. The shooter was taken into custody and the school was closed at 3:00 p.m. when worried parents came to get their children. (No one else at the school was shot or harmed.)
Asbury United Methodist Church is holding a Prayer Vigil tonight and there will soon be a press conference, but as of yet no further information is available.
On an unrelated, but equally upsetting note, it was reported that earlier today an 11-year-old girl (in another part of the country) gave birth to a baby boy. I wonder what is wrong with our world that these things keep on happening to children.
