A ninth grader was shot today by another ninth grader at Discovery Middle School in Madison, Alabama, and has been transported to a local hospital, the school announced.
The boy was shot while walking down a hallway and arrived at Huntsville Hospital around 2:20 p.m., per AL.com. He is said to be in extremely critical condition.
The victim has been identified as 14-year-old Todd T. Brown.
The middle school released the following statement:
Shooting at Discovery - Today, a ninth grade student at Discovery Middle School was shot by another ninth grade student. The shooting victim has been transported to the hospital. The alleged shooter is in police custody. No other students or faculty members at Discovery were harmed by the alleged shooter. Discovery Middle School students will be dismissed at regular time.

MADISON, Ala. - A school official says a 15-year-old boy was shot in the head by another student inside an Alabama middle school and is in critical condition.
Madison City Schools Superintendent Dee Fowler said no one else at Discovery Middle School was hurt. She says it's unclear what prompted the gunfire Friday afternoon.
Fowler says the accused shooter was arrested in the school, where police regularly are stationed
Madison, which is in northern Alabama, has about 38,500 residents. Many of them work in technology jobs related to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center at Redstone Arsenal.
