WNBA Draft 2010: First Round Results
The 2010 WNBA Draft results for the first round are coming in right now and the first player selected was Tina Charles. She played for the Connecticut Huskies and helped them to win 2 women’s basketball national championships in a row.
Connecticut Sun traded up to get the pick for Charles and it’s a bonus for both that she’s still in the state.
Each of the 12 teams in the WNBA get a pick in each of the rounds for the 2010 WNBA Draft and is then at liberty to trade those picks. The Minnesota Lynx were to draft second and third through trades and they managed to get 2 excellent players.
The second overall pick gained them Virginia’s Monica Wright, while the third pick gained them Kelsey Griffin from Nebraska. Tina Charles will be teamed up with an old friend as Connecticut Sun also got Renee Montgomery who played with her at the University of Connecticut.
The No. 7 pick in the first round also went to the Sun, who brought Danielle McCray from Kansas. For full story and the full draft results from the first round go to associatedcontent.com.
