INDIANAPOLIS: NIT championship, NCAA final four 2010 & NCAA final four schedule: NCAA mulling expansion to 96 teams. After a successful tournament, the bosses at the NCAA have a visionary plans in which more teams will get chance to test their talents.

According to inside sources, the most-sought after tournament wants more teams to participate in the popular men’s basketball tournament. The plan is to expand it to 96 teams. But officially this has not been announced. Authorities were thinking on this line before the tournament but due to some reasons they dropped the idea at the last moment.
However, NCAA vice president Greg Shaheen is keen on this front. He wants to discuss the whole issue about the 96-team tournament. Currently only 65 teams take part in the tournament.
“We needed to make sure that we did everything possible to use the due diligence window to understand ourselves and understand what the future would hold,” Shaheen said. “So that’s what we’re doing, that’s the process we’re undertaking. We’ve been handling it every day for the last several months and years, as we studied for the benefit of the organization.”
The last team that changes were made in the team was in 2001 when one team was added to the 64-team field. The new format is drawing mixed reaction.
