Rodney Stuckey admits he keeps up with the happenings around the league
The Pistons game against the Cavaliers was delayed with 2:30 left in the third quarter Friday when Rodney Stuckey collapsed on the bench.
Stuckey had seizure-like symptoms, although an exact cause is not known. A Pistons spokesmen said after the game Stuckey was in stable condition, talking to medical personnel, and his vital signs were good.
Stuckey spent the night at the Cleveland Clinic."He's stable. That's good news," coach John Kuester said after the 99-92 loss.
The Pistons had just called a timeout when Kuester was going to talk to Jonas Jerebko about a defensive assignment. Stuckey intervened and told Kuester he would take care of it.
"I loved it, he was taking initiative," Kuester said of Stuckey. "As I was meeting with the coaches, all of a sudden I saw him (Stuckey) leaning on Arnie (Kander, strength and conditioning coach) and before I knew it, he was on the ground."
Stuckey was wheeled off on a stretcher and the game was delayed approximately 10 minutes.
Replays showed Stuckey was shaking uncontrollably while laying on the floor -- seizure-like symptoms -- as Pistons players looked on in shock and disbelief. Minutes after Stuckey collapsed, television reports said his eyes were closed and he had an oxygen mask on his face while on a stretcher leaving the court.
"He came over and he told Arnie he was feeling a little dizzy and wanted some water. The next thing you know, he passed out," Charlie Villanueva said. "He sat down and he said he was feeling dizzy. It's very scary. You don't know what's going on. I'm glad he's doing well now."
Said Richard Hamilton: "It was a timeout and he was feeling light-headed and dizzy. It was one of those things that freaked everybody out. He was conscious at first, then you could see him dozing out. It was very scary. We just tried to give him room and air."
Stuckey was administered an EKG and was on oxygen before leaving Quicken Loans Arena.
Stuckey, 23, missed two games last season, in November 2008, with dizziness.
After the game, players from both the Pistons and Cavaliers met at halfcourt and joined together in prayer.
"The game is much bigger than players, coaches and fans," Cavaliers forward LeBron James said. "Tonight was a game between Cleveland and Detroit but when an instance like that happens, we all become one family. All of our prayers are with Rodney Stuckey and his family."
As for the game, Tayshaun Prince scored 23 and Hamilton 20 for the Pistons (21-41).
James had 40 points and Antawn Jamison 17 for the Cavaliers (49-14).
The Pistons led by as much as 21 points in the second quarter, 47-26, and led 55-46 at halftime. But a tough Cavaliers defense cut it to 70-68 after three quarters.
The Pistons only had seven turnovers in the first half, but seven in the third quarter alone.
Seven quick points by Jamison to begin the fourth quarter gave Cleveland a 75-70 lead.
The Cavaliers have defeated the Pistons five consecutive times over the last two seasons.
"I don't even know what the score was. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Stuckey and his family," Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said.
