Funny or Die's Presidential Reunion
Barack Obama gets a surprise visit in the night from ex-Presidents Bush Sr., Bush Jr., Clinton, Ford, Reagan and Carter to get a few pointers about the Consumer Financial Protection Agency and why it's so important.
Starring: Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey, Dana Carvey, Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Darrell Hammond, Fred Armisen & Maya Rudolph. A star-studded cast unites in a new Web video from online comedy site Funny or Die to argue for the creation of a proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency, a proposal now under consideration by Congress, as part of an effort by a coalition of liberal groups on behalf of financial regulatory reform.
The nearly-six minute "Presidential Reunion" skit, released Wednesday, features "Saturday Night Live" star Fred Armisen as Barack Obama and SNL alumna Maya Rudolph as Michelle Obama. The stars are visited in a dream sequence by a slew of comedic heavy-weights acting the part of former presidents: Will Ferrell (George W. Bush), Jim Carrey (Ronald Reagan), Dana Carvey (George H. W. Bush), Darrell Hammond (Bill Clinton), Chevy Chase (Gerald Ford) and Dan Aykroyd (Jimmy Carter).
At the end of the skit, the video tells viewers to call their senators and sends them to the Web site of The Mainstreet Brigade, which describes itself as a national "rapid response team" that is working "to support the formation of the Consumer Financial Protection act, and protect our families and communities."
The site is partnered with Americans for Financial Reform, "a coalition of more than 200 national, state and local consumer, labor, investor, civil rights, community, small business, and senior citizen organizations." And that group is partnered with Americans for Fairness in Lending, which has been conducting a call-in campaign since March 1 around the proposed agency.
The release of the video by Americans for Financial Reform kicks off a fresh call-in campaign on behalf of the regulatory agency. Directed by Ron Howard and written by Adam McKay and Al Jean, the video was shot in Van Nuys, Calif., Sunday.
"For months, the Big Banks and their army of high priced lobbyists have been swarming Capitol Hill looking to either kill or weaken real reform - including a strong and independent agency focused on standing up for consumers. We are thrilled the folks at Funny or Die, and their friends in Hollywood, are joining this fight," said Heather Booth, Executive Director of Americans for Financial Reform.
Others on the executive committee of the group include representatives of the Service Employees International Union, U.S. PIRG, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights/National Fair Housing Alliance, the Roosevelt Institute and the National Community Reinvestment Coalition.
