Scott Brown Senate: Brown Coakley Race: Exit Polls Massachusetts Senate Race

Scott Brown just might beat Martha Coakley to the Massachusetts Senate seat when just a month ago she was considered a shoe-in for what is being referred to egotistically in Democratic circles as the Ted Kennedy Seat.

“They just went dark, and the last 10 days it’s ‘Oh, we have to do something now!’” said University of New Hampshire political scientist Dante Scala.

“Even in Massachusetts, even for a Democrat, it’s tough to start a campaign from stone cold,” he added.

Brown, Democrat Martha Coakley and independent candidate Joseph L. Kennedy were on the ballot. All are vying to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy. He died in August of brain cancer.
