For those who were in Times Square to see in the 2010 New Year, the thing that you would have been waiting to see was the live ball drop. We have embedded a video of this happening below, just for those who did not get a chance to see this once a year event.
This is one of the most popular traditions in New York, as it counts down the final minute of the current year and usher in the new one. There is always so much noise in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, but all voices are joined in unison as the final seconds are counted down.
The ball is made of crystal and electric lights and is raised on a pole on top of the One Times Square building. The ball then descends 77 feet during the final minute and then comes to rest at its base at 12:00 am. According to Wikipedia, up to one million people attend the Times Square party, but it is estimated than more than one billion people watch the event either online or on TV.
Happy New Year from all at Only Kent.
