A sedan that had apparently exited eastbound Interstate 494 drove into a Metro Transit light-rail train near 34th Avenue in Bloomington shortly after noon, a Metro Transit spokesman said today.
The southbound train then struck the car, said spokesman Bob Gibbons.
The woman driving the sedan was taken to a hospital complaining of neck and back pain, Gibbons said. A second person, a man who was on the train, also complained of neck pain. Neither appeared to have serious injuries.
The rest of the train passengers were taken by bus to the Mall of America — which was likely their destination, Gibbons said.
As of early afternoon, both vehicles remained at the scene. The light-rail system was running on a single track between the 28th Avenue station and the Humphrey Terminal station, Gibbons said.
