President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama and their motorcade have left Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Brandywine Hundred en route back to Air Force One at New Castle Airport.

Brief shutdowns of local highways are typical as the presidential motorcade proceeds, so motorists should be prepared for delays this afternoon after the service ends.
Obama left the Oval Office at 9:23 a.m., according to a pool report, getting a coat and joining the first lady at their residence. They departed by helicopter at 9:26 a.m. for Andrews Air Force Base, where they were to board Air Force One for a flight to New Castle Airport.
They were greeted at the airport by Maj. Francis Vavala, adjutant of the Delaware Air National Guard, and Col. Jonathan H. Groff, wind commander of 166th airlift wing of the Delaware Air Guard.
At the church, some protesters made an appearance across the street, carrying signs blasting the president and vice president.
Air Force One touched down at New Castle Airport at 10:11 a.m.
They walked off the plane and saluted two officers of the Delaware Air National Guard before getting into a limousine and leaving the airport in a 27-car motorcade.
Hundreds of state and local police, including helicopters, and DelDOT crews and mobile signs were stationed along several major routes in the area this morning. Side roads and ramps were blocked off as the president's motorcade passed by. These roads have now been reopened, although there continue to be closures in the area of the church.
The Obamas arrived at the church, 4701 Weldin Road, well before the 11 a.m. scheduled start of the service.
