Mickie James had a title match against the current Women’s Champion Michelle McCool, the match didn’t last long and resulted in James regaining the Women’s Championship for the fifth time, winning by pinfall following a ‘Mickie DDT’.
The ECW Champion Christian had to defend his title against the number one contender Ezekiel Jackson, during the match Jackson’s associate William Regal was sent back to the locker room for trying attempting to interfere, soon after Christian hit Jackson with the ‘Killswitch’ which led to the win via pinfall.
The World Heavyweight Champion ‘The Undertaker’ defended his title against Rey Mysterio, Mysterio fought a high-paced battle and at one pint hit the champion with two 619s, however The Undertaker countered Mysterio’s follow up with the Last Ride which won him the match.
As always the iconic battle of the event was the 30-man Royal Rumble, the Rated-R Superstar Edge was the surprise contestant and entered the ring 29th, he went on to be one of the last five competitors, eventually Cena eliminated Batista and the Edge opportunistically eliminated Cena to win the rumble,
Other matches which took place resulted in the WWE Champion Sheamus retaining his title by defeating Randy Orton (albeit by disqualification), also the United States Champion ‘The Miz’ defeated ‘MVP’ via pinfall.
